About the Issuer

National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), established in 1982 under the NABARD Act, is wholly owned by the Government of India. It serves as the apex financial institution responsible for providing refinancing to state cooperative banks, regional rural banks, and other financial institutions approved by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). NABARD also plays a significant supervisory role over cooperative and rural banks, working closely with the RBI. Its mandate has expanded over time to include the management of key funds such as the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF), which supports rural development and infrastructure projects. As a wholly government-owned entity, NABARD receives substantial financial backing and strategic direction from the Government of India, a relationship that has been integral to its growth and its ability to strengthen rural credit and development. The bank primarily extends refinance loans to various banking institutions with a focus on agriculture and rural development, manages the RIDF for rural infrastructure funding, and provides direct loans to state agencies and NGOs engaged in development activities. Its financial position is underpinned by low non-performing assets, high capital adequacy, and diversified resources. With strong government backing, NABARD is well positioned to manage risk effectively and facilitate the flow of credit to rural and agricultural sectors.
